The Monrovia Public Library has all kinds of new books that will help you get ready for the holidays. Whether you're making your menu, writing your cards or you just want to hide from the holidays with a good book, there is something just for you.

Gifts from the Garden by Debora Robinson is a lovely how-to book with the emphasis on ecological presents. All the ingredients are natural and there are step-by-step instructions on making beauty products, stationery, foods, wreaths and even seed packets. This is also a great browsing book for gardeners and crafters.

Chef Ina Garten is back just in time for the holidays with her new Make It Ahead. Ms. Garten believes that cooks should be guests at their own parties instead of being confined to the kitchen. She presents not just appetizer, entrée and dessert recipes, but also gives tips on how far in advance assembling, freezing and reheating can be done. There are terrific color photos.

Why not step out of the box and make your own greeting cards this year? The title by says it all: Pop Up Cards: Over 50 Designs for Cards that Fold, Flap, Spin and Slide. You won’t need much beyond construction paper, scissors and a bit of time to make these original cards. Thankfully, the instructions are simple.

Finally, why not greet the holidays by being relaxed. Jane and the 12 Days of Christmas is the newest Stephanie Barron title in a fiction series that recreates the life of Jane Austen. While celebrating the holidays at a snow-bound estate a guest falls dead and Jane must solve the mystery. Delightful reading for Austen fans.
